A tectonic model for Cenozoic igneous activities in the eastern Indo^Asian collision zone

چکیده
Geochronologic dating and compilation of existing age data suggest that Cenozoic activities in the eastern Indo^ Asian collision zone of southeast China and Indochina occurred in two episodes, each with distinctive geochemical signatures, at 42^24 Myr and 16^0 Myr. The older rocks are localized along major strike^slip faults such as the Red River fault system and erupted synchronously with transpression. The younger rocks are widely distributed in rift basins and are coeval with east^west extension of Tibet and eastern Asia. Geochemical data suggest that the early igneous phase was generated by continental subduction while the late episode was caused by decompression melting of a metasomatically altered, depleted mantle. The magmatic gap between the two magmatic sequences represents an important geodynamic transition in the evolution of the eastern Indo^Asian collision zone, from processes controlled mainly by crustal deformation to that largely dominated by mantle tectonics. ß 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Review of age, Rb-Sr geochemistry and petrogenesis of Jurassic to Quaternary igneous rocks in Lut Block, Eastern Iran
The Lut Block (Eastern Iran) extends over 900 km in a north-south direction and is only 200 km wide in an east-west direction. It is confined by the Nayband fault and Shotori Range on the west. The eastern edge is bordered by the Sistan suture zone and Nehbandan Fault. The northern termination of Lut Block is the depression of Kavir-e-Namak and the Great Kavir Fault. The Makran arc, including ...

Dramatic crustal deformation and river incision in Southwest China induced by the Indo-Asian collision have long been argued to contribute to the complicated landscapes, heterogeneous environment and abundant biodiversity in this region. However, biological impacts in promoting intraspecific phylogeographical subdivision and divergence along the Red River Fault zone (RRF) remain poorly understo...

متن کاملSpiny frogs (Paini) illuminate the history of the Himalayan region and Southeast Asia.
Asian frogs of the tribe Paini (Anura: Dicroglossidae) range across several first-order tectono-morphological domains of the Cenozoic Indo-Asian collision that include the Tibetan Plateau, the Himalayas, and Indochina. We show how the tectonic events induced by the Indo-Asian collision affected the regional biota and, in turn, how the geological history of the earth can be viewed from a biologi...
